Sony looking to make PSP PSN more like Virtual Console
In hopes of bolstering its PSP PSN download scene, Sony plans to expand its digital catalog to include non-PlayStation console titles. "In general, there's a lot of discussion about [publishers'] back catalogs that will finally find its way to PlayStation Network in the back half of this year," said SCEA's John Koller to MTV Multiplayer. That would include both the promise of more PSOne titles (as North America seriously needs to catch up to Japan in that regard) and pre-PSOne retro titles. Despite becoming more Virtual Console-ish, this expansion of the PSP side of PSN will also offer more portable ...

2009 - The PSP Renaissance ?
With rumors of a PSP successor looming ever closer, Sony has one more chance to revive the fortunes of its first handheld game system in Western markets. While the PSP has arguably been successful, it suffered from a sharp decline in the number of game releases during 2008. At its recent Destination: Playstation event in (aptly chosen) Phoenix, the company laid out a bold plan to reinvigorate interest in the console and show gamers that the company means business when it comes to producing software on the handheld. One advantage that Sony has is that the PSP hardware continues to sell ...
Assassin’s Creed coming to PSP
Good news, the Internet! Your "bring Assassin's Creed to PSP" petitions totally worked. SCEA announced today that the game will appear courtesy of Ubisoft on Sony's portable later this year. In fact, your efforts were so effective, Sony's releasing an Assassin's Creed-themed bundle, though the only component they're talking about now is a Piano Black PSP. SCEA stopped short of actually saying the move was thanks to the overwhelming, petition-generated e-pressure, but you'll always know the truth in your hearts.
LittleBigPlanet gets littler on PSP this fall
The rumors were correct, LittleBigPlanet is heading to PSP and it'll be here before the end of the year. Announced today, the PSP version will be developed "in conjunction" with Media Molecule and will offer a similar experience to the PS3 version with players being able to play, create and share on the go. We're promised plenty of new content, such as levels, exclusive to the PSP version this fall. We'll be very surprised if we don't see any cross-platform interactivity, but details are very thin on the ground. We'll keep you updated as more information is revealed.
PSP’s Go!Messenger to Go! away next month
Goodbye Go!Messenger. Apparently no one is using you. Sony is pulling the plug on the free VoIP service for PSP after only one year of use. Edge Online confirms that Go!Messenger, which launched in Europe on February 29 of last year, will be shutting down next month on March 31. The service utilized the Go!Cam peripheral for live videochat, and though Go!Messenger will be gone soon, Sony promises other services that use the add-on device are on the way. You hear that? Don't chuck that camera in the rubbish bin just yet.

SCEE: PSP sell-in hits 50 million worldwide
Has it really been over four years since Sony's helicopters swooped in, dropped a rope ladder and successfully extracted portable entertainment from the handheld gaming ghetto? Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reminds us that the PlayStation Portable was first launched in Japan in 2004 and has since spread across the globe, reaching a "sell-in" level of 50 million units (accompanied by 200 million software units). If you can't tout selling out, you might as well do the "in" thing and count the number of units you've shipped to shelves, stalls, online retailers and really fancy airport vending machines. Still, it's ...
